"Universal Tree"

Mountain in the Sky was my attempt to bring the mountains of the Pacific Northwest to my home in the flat lands of Chicago. I painted it as large as I could ... seven feet square on two canvases split down the middle. The streams of paint flowing from the mountains represent the cycle of water and minerals during erosion and weathering. The 'water' then evaporates and rises into the air where some of it then rains or snows back down onto the mountain. The aqua blue cushion beneath the mountain represents the lakes, streams, and oceans that we depend on for life. I had to use a long handled brush to reach the top edges of the painting and a step stool for the snow. A professional retoucher was able to remove the center seam in the Limited Edition print.

Universal Tree is the 3rd progression from "Last Trees on Earth." After I painted Last Trees, I did another painting where the figure of the woman is just a brightly glowing spirit beneath the trees. In this painting, the trees have evolved into a Universal tree representing all the trees on earth, and all the colors of life are contained in this single tree! The spirit of the woman is now an ethereal shape ... depicting her oneness with the universe.
In the 4th progression the universal tree has itself broken into pieces which I depicted with large paint strokes floating freely in the vastness of the universe.

 TREES is a beautiful, high quality print from the original oil that I painted to bring trees into my living room. I created high texture on the tree trunks and "pulled" the paint down into the pond, then dabbed yellow paintstrokes to float on the water. The print is a perfect copy of the painting.

"Path Through the Woods" is about the story of the Dryad Tree that my dad told me when I was a girl. It started when he was walking thru the woods on his way to go fishing, and he stopped to rest, leaning against the trunk of a large tree. He stretched and his hand touched a limb that turned and caused the tree to split open.
      He fell into the tree and down a velvet-carpeted stairway into a majestic room where he saw a gold and jewel encrusted throne with a beautiful princess sitting there. "Because you have found the Dryad Tree, you may have three wishes" she said. "But if you make a fourth wish, your other wishes will disappear."
       So he exited the tree which immediately closed without a trace of the opening. Continuing down the path, he decided the whole thing must have been a dream. He soon came upon a large tree that had fallen over the path, blocking his way. "I wish this tree wasn't in my way!" he exclaimed, and the tree disappeared. "Oh no! The Dryad Tree was real!  I must be careful now because I only have two wishes left."  (Copy of complete story included with purchase of print.)

This beautiful coffee table art book tells the story of Zachia's journey into the creative process with insightful and sometimes very personal thoughts about how and why she paints. Many have poems that were written after the paintings were completed.

"It is not a choice for me. I have to paint! And when I paint, my love for the Earth and all living things becomes a living part of the process. a very exciting experience to see the painting materialize from plain white canvas into a universe with God, the Earth, and a strong Spiritual message. It was my purpose...to inspire love of the Earth and God strong enough to inspire a higher environmental and spiritual consciousness."
